One of our principal areas of practice at Donati Law is handling personal injury cases on behalf of injured parties. A typical common personal injury claim will stem from a car accident, trucking accident or motorcycle accident where an at-fault driver has caused harm to our client.
Recently we have handled a number of cases in which our clients sustained serious personal injuries in car accidents, trucking accidents, and motorcycle accidents, but the at-fault driver did not have any liability insurance coverage, or the liability coverage was inadequate, to cover the harms and damages caused. Thus, in these situations, our clients were unable to make a recovery for their injuries, or they made woefully inadequate recoveries. This was because our clients also lacked uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. This is a terrible situation when it happens, because the injured party is not made whole, but the situation can be prevented.
Importantly, uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage can be purchased when obtaining car insurance. In Tennessee, such coverage must actually be offered to you when purchasing car insurance, and it usually does not cost much to get significant uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. So keep this in mind when purchasing car insurance. If you have sufficient uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage, you will still be able to recover money for the harm and injuries you sustained (medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering) if the at-fault driver does not have liability insurance or the at-fault party's liability insurance is inadequate.
If you have any questions regarding uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage arising from a car accident, trucking accident, or motorcycle accident, please contact us. We will be happy to answer your questions.
